India is home for a wide variety of plant species(lot of herbs and natural remedies) for almost every disease, owing to 24.39% of the geographical area which is covered by Trees & Forests.

Plants have medicinal value too along with ornamental purpose. The ancient science of Ayurveda and Yoga relies heavily on these plants to treat major conditions, from pain management to weight management and everything.

Former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam wrote, “I see greenery all around the estate in Rashtrapati Bhavan everyday – with colours, fragrance and foliage changing amazingly with every change in season. In spring, from March to May, the estate is in full bloom fascinating all who come to see the beautiful collection of flowers and trees. During winter months, Mughal and other gardens of the estate such as herbal, spiritual, musical, nutrition, tactile, bio-fuel and bio-diversity parks, spread colour and fragrance all around.”

And Kalam’s vision to promote natural remedies led to the establishing Herbal Gardens in the Rashtrapati Bhavan Estate in the year 2002 with the help and supervision of the Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP). Around 33 medicinal and aromatic plants depicting their use are planted in these gardens.

Since ancient times we have used plants and herbs to heal ourselves. Many of us think that these plants are hard to find and can only be found in far off forests or mountains. As time is turning around quite drastically for medicinal plants, a lot of people around the world are getting quite passionate on using natural remedies for common ailments. WHO research report indicates that approximate 80% people prefer to have natural remedies for small ailments, than rushing to hospitals.
